Indigenous knowledge about the natural world and sustainability has been passed down for generations. As the Minnesota state government takes action to address climate change, we can learn from these traditions and apply this deep understanding of interconnectedness to tackling the climate crisis.

On November 20, leaders from state government and tribal nations that share geography with Minnesota will convene at the Government-to-Government (G2G) Forum on Climate Change. The annual event fosters a collaborative environment where state agencies and tribal governments come together to better prepare our communities for the changes to Minnesota’s climate.

This forum aims to leverage the unique perspectives, traditional knowledge, and modern scientific understanding that each party brings to develop more effective and culturally sensitive climate action strategies. It is designed to build relationships, share resources, and create long-term commitments that will guide collaboration between the state and Tribal Nations for years to come.

By setting these goals and objectives, the G2G Forum aims to create a productive and respectful platform for dialogue and action on climate change, recognizing the crucial role that both state agencies and Tribal Nations play in addressing environmental challenges.

The event will take place in person at the Minneapolis American Indian Center, in the Grandparents Room, on the evening of Wednesday, November 20. This forum provides an opportunity for tribal leadership and Minnesota’s Climate Change Subcabinet to meet and discuss ways to advance shared climate change goals.

Stay tuned for updates on the outcomes of this year’s forum and more information about the collaboration between tribal nations and the Minnesota state government to address climate change.
